Daniella Shaw
Daniella Shaw is a sociologist and postdoctoral researcher at Birkbeck, University of London, working on Liminal Waterway Countercultures. Her research in Liverpool uses participatory photography and storytelling to surface lesser-told histories of the city’s waterfront, particularly those of marginalised, migrant and long-established dockside communities.
She previously worked on the European Encounters project, examining Muslim–Jewish relations in London and across Europe, and co-edited the European Journal of Cultural Studies special issue “Boundary Work in Muslim–Jewish Encounters in Urban Europe” (2025). Her doctoral research explored how religion-oriented diasporic communities negotiate modernity, based on fieldwork with Jewish and Amish groups in the UK and USA.
Daniella also taught at University College London, on urban ethnography and participant-centred research methods courses, and has over two decades’ experience in intercultural facilitation, inclusion practice and refugee advocacy.
